NACRE - New Aircraft Concepts REsearch

(2005 -  2009)

During the past 50 years aircraft development was triggered by the need to improve costs and efficiency and resulted in the well-known conventional configuration. Furthermore a drastic boost of world-wide aircraft traffic has been proposed and already partially observed. Environmental aspects have to be taken into acount when designing an aircraft, too. To meet these requirements non-convential aircraft-configurations are evaluated regarding their sustainability (for more information see the NACRE-Project Homepage of the EU). NACRE is funded by the EU in the 6th framework program and is currently running.

IBK works within NACRE on two issues

 Pressure distribution on the fuselage

  • In order to evaluate the aerodynamic influence of new fuselage concepts for PDA (payload-driven aircrafts), CFD calculations for different fuselage design have been performed. Using an optimization approach the geometry of promising configurations regarding their aerodynamic performance have been analysed. The optimised configurations have been compared and discussed.

  • For evaluating different wing-configurations IBK performed load-calculations of the High-Lift devices for forward-swept wings. The loads were delivered to partners and are based on CFD-calculations.
